The former Scotland full back came to prominence at St Johnstonein the late 1990s and he moved to Blackburn Rovers for a St Johnstone club record of £1.75 million in 1998.
In July 2000 he moved to Leicester City for £2.75 million. He remained at the Foxes for four years before moving to a Preston North End In 2004.
He returned to McDiarmid Park in 2011 and in 2013 he was appointed Assistant Manager, helping Saints to their Scottish Cup triumph in 2014.
During his playing career he notched up 19 caps for Scotland and in 2017 he joined the Scotland coaching team.
At the start of season 2018-2019 he was appointed first team coach at Stoke City, but left in January 2019. The 42 year old joined the Pars until the end of the 2018-2019 season.
